Ideal for short breaks: Ten European cities that you should have seen

Are you in the mood for an extraordinary view on a romantic day of the year? Then the Saar loop in Saarland is just the thing. From the viewpoint “Cloef” lovers have a breathtaking view of the river, which meanders through the forests and runs almost in a complete circle. It can be reached via a short walk from the village of Orscholz, so couples don’t have to worry about a complicated ascent.

The Cloef vantage point is supplemented by an 800-metre-long treetop path, which winds its way up around 23 meters through beeches, oaks and Douglas firs. Once at the top, a 42-metre-high observation tower awaits hikers, from which they can see the Saarschleife in a postcard motif. A walk along the meander of the river is also romantic, offering a unique opportunity to enjoy nature and relax. Day trippers wanting to explore the area more can visit the nearby village of Mettlach, known for its historic buildings and local culture.

Fairytale mood at the Rakotzbrücke for lovers

The Rakotz Bridge in Upper Lusatia is an enchanting and fairytale destination for couples on Valentine’s Day. The arch that she draws over the Rakotzsee, together with her reflection, forms a perfect circle and almost looks like a gate into a mystical world. No wonder the bridge is a popular photo motif. But there is, even more, to discover for romance fans, because the small structure is located in Kromlauer Park, which is known for its countless rhododendrons. The bushes are not yet in bloom in February, but there are many dreamy corners, such as the oak hill, that invite you to linger. In the park, there is also the Kromlau Castle which can also be booked as a wedding location.

Strolling along the Binz beach promenade

The Binz beach promenade is located on one of the most beautiful beaches on the Baltic Sea coast and offers a breathtaking view of the sea and the island of Rügen even in the winter months. A romantic stroll along the boulevard is a unique opportunity to enjoy the fresh sea air and hear the sound of the waves. However, if the wind gets too strenuous, couples can settle down in one of the many restaurants or explore the small boutiques.

Perfect experience: discovering the Romantic Road

Where can it be more romantic than the Romantic Road? It is the oldest and probably the best-known holiday route in Germany and leads from Würzburg to Füssen past numerous historic towns and tranquil villages. Stops can be made, for example, in picturesque places such as Rothenburg ob der Tauber or Landsberg am Lech, but sights such as the Wieskirche or Neuschwanstein Castle are also on the way. A drive along the Romantic Road is a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of southern Germany and enjoy nature. The surrounding area also offers a variety of recreational opportunities, such as hiking, cycling and fishing, which couples in love can enjoy together.

Sweet hike on the Liebesbankweg in the Harz Mountains

The name of the Liebesbankweg says it all: it is a hiking trail in the Harz Mountains that leads around the Bocksberg. The route takes lovers past 25 individual love banks thematically starting with the first rendezvous up to the diamond wedding. At each spot, couples can linger for a moment or enjoy a picnic with a beautiful view of the Hahnenklee.
